Giving BIRTH is an event that a woman will remember for the rest of her life. She will remember how she felt, did she feel safe? Did she feel respected? Did she feel honored? Did she feel like her needs were met & her desires upheld? Was her support system close by? Was she able to move freely-to feel each pressure wave and allow gravity to assist her in birthing? Was the atmosphere calm? Was she given choices? And even if things shifted- was she allowed to decide what was best for her?
These are the things that should happen during birth. But sadly, here in GA- this is not a reality for most women.
No woman should be forced to give birth in a setting that is not comfortable for them. But because the state of Georgia refuses to acknowledge CPMs, and most insurance fails to cover home-birth— this is our reality.
Traditional midwives have been around longer than CNMs and OBGYNs. Granny midwives delivered thousands of babies, before legislators pushed them out with regulations that forced women into the hospital for birth. Our maternal outcomes are now worse than any other developed country. We need to normalize home-birth again, AND make it an accessible and affordable option.
Please join me in supporting my sister in having a better birthing experience. One in which she gets to birth the way she wants too, in the comfort of her own home.
